Creative Diaries: DIY

Introducing the Creative Diaries, a new feature on the blog where Selkie’s co-founders Alexandra and Caroline share with you what they have been seeing, reading and are currently inspired by.

A great way to bring some creative and sustainable DIY into your life is to make some of your own cleaning products. Here is a quick and easy recipe for an all-purpose surface and bathroom cleaner (not great on porous surfaces like marble or granite). It uses citrus peels, so if you have been having lots of lemon and oranges, this is an excellent way to make the most of your kitchen waste!

You need:

  • Citrus waste (orange, lemon, lime)
  • Vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Optional: 10 drops of citrus essential oil (lemon, orange, grapefruit, bergamot

Put your citrus waste in a glass container and cover it with vinegar. Let this sit for two weeks, out of direct sunlight. Sift the liquid and dilute it 50/50 with water into a spray bottle. Cleaning has never looked this good! Citrus contains antioxidants, is antibacterial, mood lifting, great to clean sticky surfaces and a natural air freshener.
